Who He Is |

Rog Billings refers to himself as a scientist and inventor. He believes in America, personal freedom, and the free enterprise system.
He realizes that we, as a nation and as a global community, have urgent societal problems that need to be addressed. As he sees it, turning things around will require more than good government. It will require reinventing our attitudes and philosophies about life. While he realizes that he alone can't fix these problems, he is actively engaged in doing his part to help.
Rog has been working to create jobs, improve education, and sustain the environment. As a student he developed a broad interest in the sciences and, while at the university, earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering. He has always been intrigued by nature and how things work.
Shortly after completing his formal studies, Rog had a chance encounter that would change his career - and his life. He was introduced to Bill Lear, the creator of the Lear Jet and many other important technologies. He took an immediate liking to Mr. Lear and was pleased when Lear invited him to become his protégé.
When Rog joined Lear, he learned that there was much more to developing technology than the science and engineering formulas he had studied in school. He learned that to be able to really do something with new technology required a whole new background expertise, including skills like reading a financial statement, developing a sales and marketing program, manufacturing engineering, and more. According to Mr. Lear's philosophy, the whole process of developing a new industry begins with the analysis and evaluation of a new technology to determine its economic potential, since most good ideas have some flaw or missing piece that makes them poor candidates for economic exploitation. Once a new technology is selected for development, a business plan must be developed, financing put in place, and the new enterprise launched.
Although his close association with Bill Lear was just for a few years, as a result of Lear's mentoring Rog re-invented his philosophy on research and on what he wanted to do with his career. Halfway through his study under Lear, he launched his first real enterprise. He did not need money, because he had learned how to get that. He did not need a complete knowledge of the field, because he had learned how to get that. He did not need to hold up on going after his dreams, because he had learned that he could pursue them. Most importantly, while working with Bill Lear, he learned he could “do” something - he could make a difference.
Rog ran that first company for 13 years, eventually seeing it become publically traded, which resulted in significant financial benefit for him and his family. When it was time to move on, he was privileged to join forces with four distinguished scientists in forming the International Academy of Science, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development and dissemination of the “art” of innovating new technologies into new enterprises. At the Academy he had the opportunity of mentoring young candidates eager to make their own mark on the history of technology.
Rog now holds among his accomplishments a portfolio of technology companies that are making an impact on real markets. One source of satisfaction he receives from these endeavors is the realization that these enterprises, which began as just an idea in his mind, are now the source of employment and personal development opportunities for many of his friends and associates. This, he claims, has made his work most fulfilling.
What He Does |

Rog has made a career of “cooking” new technologies into new industries.
Each year the scientific community makes new discoveries that advance our understanding of the universe. Sometimes these new discoveries create opportunities to do things differently and better than ever before. This is when Rog gets involved.
Rog has a special talent for recognizing promising new technologies, evaluating their commercial potential, and then advancing them into cutting-edge, new enterprises. He limits his involvement in projects to only those that, in addition to commercial potential, have some altruistic potential to better mankind and contribute to the accomplishment of his core goals. In this way he has the satisfaction of generating revenue, creating jobs, and making his contribution to solving some of our greatest societal challenges.
